The quaint borough of Bridgewater in southwestern Pennsylvania, sits along the Beaver River and allows residents and visitors to enjoy many riverfront activities. Bridgewater, designated as an historic district, had experienced resurgence with new commercial and residential construction that resulted in the need for a larger, more modern fire department building. The budget for the new facility provided the challenge of designing with limited resources. The project was truly a community effort as many local residents volunteered their talents and local companies donated needed materials. The Bridgewater Fire Department stressed the importance of having a building that complemented the surrounding community. The brick exterior, pre-cast concrete banding, detailed roofing system, and the glass paneled doors to the bays, allow the new firehouse to fit in nicely between Bridgewater’s central business district and residential neighborhoods. |
