Potter Township, located in a rural area along the Ohio River in southwestern Pennsylvania, is home to a number of industries as well as a growing residential community. The Potter Township Volunteer Fire Department, finding that their existing firehouse was inadequate to house the trucks and equipment needed to serve their expanding community, decided to build a new facility on property donated by a nearby industry. The Department stressed the importance of designing a facility that would fit in nicely with the surrounding, wooded residential neighborhood. Budget was also a major consideration so the Department took on the responsibility of completing some of the interior finishes and installing the in-slab heating system used for the first floor area. Today the five-bay firehouse with its wood siding, gabled peaks and earth tone colors, not only complements the neighborhood but allows the Fire Department to provide quality fire and emergency protection for the Potter Township community.
